Master of Arts - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
The M.A. in TESOL is available to the full range of graduate students, domestic and international, who are interested in advancing their knowledge of and credentials in the teaching of English language learners. We believe that our commitment to offering the appropriate course work in a variety of formats, including entirely online, makes it possible for students with differing needs to achieve their educational goals efficiently.
Fun Facts
- ATU has offered undergraduate and graduate instruction in ESOL pedagogy since 1992
- In 2004, ATU began offering an M.A. in TESOL, the first university in the state to do so, with approximately 550 graduates to date.
- In 2005, Arkansas Tech University began offering an M.A. in English with TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) and has had 171 graduates as of the year 2020.
- The M.A. TESOL program has been delivering courses online since receiving approval from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education in January 2014.

My TESOL degree has given me new compassion for ELLs and new passion for teaching them as well. I have learned so much in a short time, and I hope to incorporate many of the strategies and principles I have learned into my 10th grade English classes this coming school year.
