GET INVOLVED IN RESEARCH

If you are interested in getting involved in research, contact your department head or ask your professors about current research being conducted by ATU faculty.

If you have an idea for a research project, talk to your professors in your field to find out if one of them will agree to be your faculty mentor.

Are you new to research? Check out some of the student research projects from our last Annual Student Research Symposium.

ATU Scholars SYMPOSIUM

Poster Presentations

Showcase your research, creative projects, or scholarly work during an in-person poster presentation. Posters may present completed research, works in progress, proposals for future projects, or creative endeavors.

Poster presentations take place during a scheduled in-person poster block. During this time, faculty, staff, and fellow students will circulate through the poster area to view displays and engage presenters in conversation. Presenters should prepare to give a 5–7 minute overview of their work and also have a 1–2 minute elevator pitch ready for attendees who may only have a brief moment to engage.

Platform presentations

Present your research, creative projects, or scholarly work live and in person through a platform presentation, sometimes referred to as a podium or oral presentation. This format is well suited for projects that benefit from a structured, speaker-led presentation, demonstration, performance, or reading, followed by audience discussion.

Platform presentations take place in scheduled sessions and may include visual or media support such as slides, audio, or video. Presenters will share their work with faculty, staff, and fellow students and engage in questions and discussion at the conclusion of the presentation.

Students should prepare a presentation of no more than 20 minutes. Each session, including questions and discussion, will last approximately 30 minutes. To ensure the symposium remains on schedule, presentation times will be strictly observed.

Virtual Presentations

Students who are participating remotely, are enrolled online, or prefer a virtual option may showcase their research, creative projects, or scholarly work through a pre-recorded presentation of no more than 10 minutes. Only the final version of the presentation should be uploaded.

Virtual presentations allow students to participate asynchronously while still reaching a broad audience. This format does not include a live presentation or real-time question and answer session.

STUDENT Research Grant

The ATU College of Research and Graduate Studies students to submit applications for funds to support faculty-mentored independent research. Funding for student research projects includes up to $2,000 in project support (including supplies and travel). Applications will be evaluated based on academic merit, the quality of the proposed research, and the feasibility of completing the project during the grant period.

Following is a description of the support available and application process.

Applications for Student Research Grants (SRG) in ALL academic disciplines will be considered for funding. Applications may focus on investigation of questions of interest to the faculty mentor. SRG awards are subject to the following conditions.

  1. SRG applicants are required to have a faculty mentor with an appropriate project supported by the proposal. A mentoring plan will be required as a component of the proposal.
  2. SRG recipients will present their results in the Annual ATU Student Research Symposium (student presentations are preferred) on April 9th, 2026. This will serve as a forum for presentation and discussion of research and dissemination of results.
  3. A maximum of $2,000 is anticipated for the SRG awards to cover the cost of materials and travel expenses. After the SRG award is approved, budget transfers between different categories will not be allowed. Therefore, the proposal's budget should be prepared according to the needs in each category. All requisitions for items previously approved on the grant application must be done when the funds are dispersed.
  4. SRG recipients must submit their poster or presentation  from the Annual ATU Research Symposium to the Online Research Commons @ ATU.
*All travel must be in accordance with current ATU policies in effect during the grant period and approved by the department head, dean, and VP. These funds are  intended for student travel and excludes travel for faculty. If travel arrangements should change after a budget has been approved, the recipient and mentor should submit a revised budget reflecting these changes.

  1. Quality of the student applicant as measured by GPA and potential/plans for graduate education and a research career.
