Outdoor Recreation provides students with opportunities to explore, stay active, and enjoy the outdoors with free equipment checkouts, including bikes, kayaks, canoes, tents, hammocks, and fishing rods. In addition to gear, the program offers a student-run bike shop and organized outdoor excursions, making it easy to maintain equipment and join group adventures. Open to all students, Outdoor Recreation provides a fun and accessible way to get outside, regardless of experience level.

Equipment Check out Guidelines

  • Access Outdoor Recreation services and equipment check-outs as a currently enrolled Arkansas Tech student.
  • Present a valid ATU Student ID for all equipment check-outs.
  • Check out select equipment at no cost, including bicycles, kayaks, hammocks, canoes, slacklines, and other outdoor gear.
  • Complete all required waivers and safety orientations prior to participation.
  • Wear proper attire and safety equipment at all times; follow all staff instructions during activities.
  • Take full responsibility for checked-out equipment and return items by the designated time to avoid late fees.
  • Cover the cost of any damaged or lost equipment, which may result in repair or replacement charges.

  • Sand Volleyball
  • Spikeball

Bike Shop

The Outdoor Recreation Bike Shop is a student-run space offering basic bike maintenance and repair services. Students can receive assistance with services such as fixing flat tires, adjusting brakes, and general tune-ups. The Bike Shop also serves as a resource for learning more about bike care and maintenance in a hands-on environment.

The Bike Shop is located at the Ferguson Student Union South Entrance:

  • Tuesday – Wednesday: 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Services & Access

  • Access The Bike Shop as a currently enrolled Arkansas Tech University student, faculty, or staff member
  • Bring personal bicycles in for general repair and upkeep at no cost, assisted by trained student employees
  • Provide any required replacement parts; additional part costs may be the responsibility of the bicycle owner
  • Use Bike Shop services for bicycles checked out through Outdoor Recreation
  • Receive maintenance support for all Outdoor Recreation bike inventory

Outdoor Recreation offers organized trips and activities designed to help students explore the outdoors and build community. Trips may include group bike rides, mountain biking excursions, float trips, and other adventure-based outings. These experiences provide a fun and supportive way for students to try new activities and enjoy the outdoors.
