newsletterWelcome to the Department of Art

Mission Statement

The Department of Art at Arkansas Tech University offers dynamic degree programs in Fine Art, Graphic Design and Art Education. The ATU art faculty is comprised of professional and award- winning artists, active scholars, and passionate educators who offer their insight, skills, and guidance to prepare students for the arts professions. Our state of the art facility, Norman Hall, features a professional gallery, computer lab, lecture hall, and fully equipped art studios for painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, graphic design, and ceramics.

We emphasize a traditional foundation program for all art majors with a focus on visual art concepts, skills, and technology, with options for advanced study in a large range of media: painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, drawing, graphic design, and digital art. Students learn to think and write critically about art through studio critiques and an extensive art history curriculum that provides the framework for a deeper understanding of the arts and the creative process.

Students at Arkansas Tech University are offered real-world experiences through opportunities to participate in student competitive exhibitions, program internships, and special scholarly or studio research projects. The Department of Art, in furtherance of the university‚Äôs mission to promote life-long learning, encourages leadership through student development of visual art events on campus and in the surrounding community. This combination of hands-on experiences, advanced study, and expert faculty help students develop comprehensive portfolios that prepare them for successful careers as designers, educators, and studio artists.
