Teacher Education

There are stages and requirements that candidates must successfully complete to be recommended for initial teacher licensure.

Undergraduate teacher licensure candidates, you must complete the following four stages to be recommended for teacher licensure along with all testing, scoring, and Department of Secondary and Elementary Education (DESE) requirements.

If you are a graduate student pursuing initial teacher licensure, you must complete the graduate program requirements (e.g., admission to the the Graduate College, admission to candidacy, etc.) and all testing, scoring and DESE requirements, along with Stages III and IV denoted here.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (ECE)

The Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education is an online degree. This degree program is structured to provide a seamless acquisition of academic requirements for various career levels in occupations related to child care and early childhood education in the public and private sectors. The Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education degree meets requirements in alignment towards the Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership (BA-OL) with a concentration in Child Development. Although this is not a public school teacher licensure program, the Teacher Education Student Services Office works with students in this program for practicum course placements.
