Leave of Absence

leave of absence is authorization for an employee to be away from work for a period of more than 3 days not related to a paid vacation. Leaves of absence can be provided by law or policy. If an employee (or their supervisor) know that they will need to be off work more than 3 days, they should submit a leave request to the Human Resources office with as much notice as possible to allow for processing. Leave of absences can be paid or unpaid and job-protected or unprotected. Arkansas Tech University has the following available policies:

Leave Types

  • Catastrophic Leave
  • Educational Leave
  • Emergency/Disaster/Rescue Service Leave
  • Leave of Absence Without Pay
  • Family Medical Leave
  • Maternity Leave
  • Military Leave

To request a leave of absence, an employee must submit the electronic leave form to the Human Resources office. This form can be found on OneTech under the Employee tab in Banner Self-Service within the Human Resources Forms folder or by clicking link above under Resources and Forms.

Once a leave request is received, the Human Resources office will review eligibility, notify management that a leave was requested, and send the employee a leave packet with all of the information they will need while off work.

Workplace Accommodations

A workplace accommodation is an adjustment to a job or work environment that makes it possible for an individual to perform their essential job duties. Accommodations may include specialized equipment, modifications to the work environment, or adjustments to work schedules or responsibilities.

To request a workplace accommodation, an employee must submit the electronic accommodation form to the Human Resources office. This form can be found on OneTech under the Employee tab in Banner Self-Service within the Human Resources Forms folder or by clicking the link above under Resources and Forms.

Once an accommodation request is received, the Human Resources office will review eligibility, initiate an interactive dialogue with management, and send the employee an accommodation packet with all of the information they will need to complete their request.
