Green Zone Advocate
Establish a baseline of knowledge on our campus regarding our current military affiliated studentsThe Office of Veterans Services offers the Green Zone Advocate program to the campus community to:
- Increase education and awareness of the path military affiliated students take while attending Arkansas Tech
- Enhance our services to ensure that all academic goals are reached by all military affiliated students
Development of the program began in 2017. As our military affiliated student population continued to grow and with expectations of increases in enrollment, the staff in the Office of Veterans Services wanted to ensure that we as a university were best meeting the needs of this population. After attending conference sessions, reviewing similar programs, and even attending an actual workshop at a university outside the state, the staff brought together colleagues from across campus to put together an advocate program to meet the needs of Arkansas Tech University.
The development team consisted of faculty and staff from across campus. This team included current and former members of the military, military spouses and dependents, counseling staff, administrators, and certifying officials. During the development of the various content, this group consulted with our currently affiliated students to be sure that all topics were being addressed.
This three-hour workshop was first offered in the 2018-2019 academic year and is offered several times annually. If you are considering a workshop specifically for your office or department, please contact Mrs. Shelly Hall at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 479-968-0445.
