How to Do Laundry On Campus

 

What to Bring

Washers and dryers are provided at no cost (no coins or payment required).

Required Items

  • Laundry detergent
  • Garment bag
  • Hamper or laundry bag

Optional Items

  • Fabric softener
  • Scent beads
  • Stain remover
  • Bleach (for whites only, if safe according to garment care labels)

Water Temperatures

Cold Water

Use for:

  • Dark colors
  • Delicate items
  • Clothing prone to shrinking or color bleeding

Warm Water

Use for:

  • Everyday laundry loads
  • Light-colored clothing
  • Moderately soiled items

Directions

  1. Sort clothes into separate piles (lights, darks, whites, towels, and bedding). Wash intimates in a garment bag.
  2. Load the washer with one pile of laundry and add detergent and any optional laundry products.
  3. When the wash cycle is complete, transfer items to the dryer and select an appropriate drying time based on garment care labels and load size.
  4. When drying is complete, remove lint from the lint trap and promptly fold or hang your items.

Laundry Tips

Do

  • Move laundry promptly when cycles are complete.
  • Clean lint traps after every dryer use.
  • Set a timer to avoid leaving clothes unattended.

Don't

  • Leave laundry unattended in the laundry room.
  • Overload machines beyond ¾ capacity.
  • Remove another person's belongings unless they have been left unattended for more than 30 minutes.
