ELIGIBILITY: Degree seeking undergraduate students at a partner university MAJORS: All TERMS: Spring Semester or full Academic Year

LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION: Spanish; a very limited number of courses is offered in English

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT: No Spanish proficiency required however, one year of Spanish instruction is recommended. If planning to attend classes taught in Spanish, B1 proficiency in Spanish is required.

WHY UNIVERSIDAD DE LEON: The University of León (ULE) is a Spanish public university with campuses in León and Ponferrada. ULE offers 53 higher education degrees taught in 17 centers by a total of 26 departments. The total number of students is 13,000. León is a centuries-old city, a settlement and crossroads on the Pilgrims’ Way to Saint James of Compostella [Camino de Santiago]. It lies about four hours away from Madrid, two from Salamanca and roughly the same from the North Coast of Spain.The city is easily crossed on foot, which makes it easy for travelers to get to know its streets and its inhabitants. It has a great deal to offer visitors, both cultural and a wide range of festivals and celebrations, some recognized internationally, like its Holy Week parades and ceremonies. Safety and an atmosphere of calm are also striking features of this city.
