International Faculty collaborations 2022

Due to COVID 19, students all over the world have not been able to travel abroad and may not be able to for some time. In an effort to bring the world to our students and to facilitate the internationalization effort at ATU, the Study Abroad Office has helped ATU faculty members, faculty members at partner universities, and specialists abroad come together for a variety of virtual collaborations.  These include guest lectures, collaborative webinars, interactive workshops, and cooperative curricular/co-curricular activities among students. 

We are grateful to the faculty members from every college at ATU who have committed to be part of this exciting international experience for our students. Below are the collaborations for 2022:

International Guest Lecture- Agriculture

Dr. Bryan Rank, ATU Department of Agriculture, will engage in a guest lecture by Dr. Matthew Mbanga of EDU Africa.

Title: Sustainable Food Systems

This program engages students with the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which are transforming the world’s food system from the ground up and nature-based solutions to sustainability.

Dr. Paola Gemme gave a guest lecture at the Universidad Del Valle, in Guatemala City, Guatemala to students and faculty about Global Englishes and its pedagogical implications on the field.

Dr. Theresa Cullen, College of Education and Health, Department of Curriculum & Instruction, has organized this international lecture series on       K-12 education with educators from across the world.

Lecture One: Montréal, Canada

Tami Brewster is a passionate elementary educator, Apple Teacher and Apple Distinguished Educator from Montréal, Canada. Realizing that her students need to understand the world they interact with, Tami works to develop a learning environment to best meet the varied needs of her learners. She strives to make learning interesting, attainable, and enjoyable for her students. She feels strongly about the importance of equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom, and says that as a teacher she needs to model taking risks and trying new things.

Dr. Theresa Cullen, College of Education and Health, Department of Curriculum & Instruction, has organized this international lecture series on            K-12 education with educators from across the world.

Lecture Two: South Africa and Mauritius

Bronwyn Desjardins is an ADE and an APLS with over 22 years teaching experience. She spearheaded a 1:1 iPad rollout at an elite, high-performing school in South Africa where she ran a comprehensive approach to integrating technology in education. She is an award winning educator and a published author who regularly presents at EdTech events both nationally and internationally. Her depth of systems administration knowledge coupled with her passion for EdTech, make her skill set unique in its comprehensiveness when advising schools, staff and students.

     Xela McArthur                                  Dr. Theresa Cullen 

Dr. Theresa Cullen, College of Education and Health, Department of Curriculum & Instruction, has organized this international lecture series on       K-12 education with educators from across the world.

Xela McArthur is a 1st grade teacher in Russellville, Arkansas. She has worked in the field of education for over twenty years. Xela started her career working with deaf students and loves to use sign language in her teaching. She has also worked as a long-term substitute teacher, an instructional aide, and co-administrator for one of the largest after school programs in Las Vegas, Nevada. Xela has an ESL endorsement and recently added a virtual teaching endorsement.
