We are excited about the upcoming Professional Development Opportunities, this summer for Math, Science and PLTW.  You will find descriptions and ID for workshops, below.  These are listed by dates.  All Science workshops will be held on the campus of ATU.

Opportunities by Date for Summer 2016:

June 1-2, 2016 (5-8 Science Teachers,  EscWorks ID: 282213) Grasping Phenomenal Science: Navigating from Standards to Instruction (FREE):
Educators will engage in grade-specific lessons to make sense of science phenomena and reflect on instructional strategies designed to engage students in science instruction consistent with the new Arkansas science standards.

June 8-9: Getting Students to Thinking Mathematically - It Isn't Just a Dream (5-8)
Cost: $125.00 - Participants will receive two books and lunch is provided.
This session will focus on mathematical reasoning as an evolving process of conjecturing, generalizing, investigating why, and developing and evaluating arguments. It is organized around one big idea - Mathematical Reasoning, supported by smaller interconnected ideas.

June 9-10, 2016: Targeting Science Teachers in Grades K-4: Science Phenomena, Making Sense; EscWorks ID: 283292 ($300.00):   If you are a teacher of the K-4 grades, join us for a two-day workshop.  We will be exploring the AR K-12 Science Standards, writing lessons, engaging activities, and putting it to use, in the classroom.  You will receive materials for classrooms, handouts, and templates for every activity that is covered in this two-day workshop. 

June 20-21, 2016 (9th-12th Science Teachers, EscWorks ID: 282214) Grasping Phenomenal Science: Navigating from Standards to Instruction:(FREE)  Educators will engage in grade-specific lessons to make sense of science phenomena and reflect on instructional strategies designed to engage students in science instruction consistent with the new Arkansas science standards.

June 27, 2016: Integration of Science and Math with the ACT Aspire Assessment:Targeting Teachers in Grades K-6 EscWorks ID: 283293 ($150.00) What practices can be used in the science and math classrooms, which will allow students to have a greater understanding of the math and science standards? Join us for a day of hands-on approach, implementation of standards, and putting it to use for preparation of the ACT Aspire Assessments.

July 6-7: Developing Proportional Reasoning (Blended Learning PD) (4-7)
Cost: $125.00 - Lunch will be provided. This session consists of 2 face-to-face days and follow-up activities through Moodle for a total of 24 PD hours.
This session will investigate the development of proportional reasoning concepts and skills beginning with multiplicative comparison and relating measurement units in grade 4 to using proportional relationships to solve multi-step problems in grade 7.

July 12, 2016: Picture Perfect Science; EscWorks ID: 283295 ($175.00) Are you an elementary teacher that wants to incorporate more science into your literacy curriculum?  Join us for a one-day workshop and learn the implementation of the Picture Perfect Series Curriculum.  You will receive all three books of the Picture Perfect, More Picture Perfect, and Even More Picture Perfect. 

July 18: Engaging Middle School Students through Technology and Manipulatives (6-8)
Cost: $75.00 - Lunch will be provided
Are you looking for ways to keep your students effectively engaged? We will explore easy-to-use, free technology that can be incorporated into daily classroom activities; along with some engaging, hands-on lessons utilizing manipulatives.

July 19-20: Integrating Math and Computer Science in Grades K-5
Cost: $200.00 - Lunch will be provided
Participants will be given the opportunity to explore the new AR K-5 Computer Science standards and determine how they relate to the AR K-5 Math Standards. Participants will engage in lesson building activities that embed the computer science standards at their grade level.

July 19-21, 2016:  Engineering Design and the Science Standards: K-6 Teachers: EscWorks ID: 283296 ($500.00)

The standards address so much more than just terminology, and little activities.  Join us for 3 full days of learning the engineering design process, and what it looks like with the science standards.  You will receive materials, to incorporate these into your classroom. Combining the study of science and real-world problems, with the development of solutions will produce true problem-solvers for the future.

Explore activities that incorporate hands-on learning and questioning techniques to extend student learning. Participants will engage in activities designed to extend student thinking and reasoning on specific grade level topics.
