Andrea Hollander Budy


On November 6, 2006, Andrea Hollander Budy, Writer in Residence at Lyon College, read at Tech. She is the author of three poetry collections--Woman in the Painting, House Without a Dreamer, and The Other Life-- as well as three award-winning chapbooks. She has been recognized with the Nicholaas Roerich Poetry Prize, the D. H. Lawrence Fellowship, a Pushcart Prize for memoir, and fellowships from the Arkansas Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts

Andrea Budy's poems and essays have been published in anthologies, textbooks, and numerous literary journals, including The Georgia Review, Poetry, FIELD, Shenandoah, Doubletake, and Creative Nonfiction. Pulitzer Prizewinner Maxine Kumin says of Budy's work: "Her impeccable conversational diction does just what a poem should do; it raises the hairs on the nape of your neck." And National Book Award winner Mark Jarman writes, "This poet knows the heart and speaks for it and from it with a simplicity and honesty rare at any time."
