Residence Hall Contract Cancellation

 

Academic Year 2021-2022

 

BEFORE AUGUST 14, 2021: CONTRACT CANCELLATION

A Cancellation is the request for termination of the Terms and Condition of Occupancy initiated by a student prior August 14, 2021.

Residents who are not required to live on campus and/or have received an exemption from residence life before the start of the Contract Term, or who are not attending the University, may cancel or terminate this contract and receive a refund of the prepayment/security deposit according to the terms/schedule listed below:

  1. Residents who officially withdrawal from the University:
    1. Residents who cancel on or after May 1, 2021 will forfeit their entire prepayment.
  2. Residents:
    1. Residents who cancel on or after May 1, 2021 will forfeit their entire prepayment ($100).
    2. Residents who cancel on or after June 1, 2021 will forfeit their entire prepayment ($100) and receive a $250 cancellation fee.
    3. Residents who cancel their contract on or after July 1, 2021 will forfeit their entire prepayment ($100) and receive a $500 cancellation fee.
    4. Residents who cancel their contract on or after August 1, 2021 will forfeit their entire prepayment ($100) and receive a $750 cancellation fee.

AUGUST 14, 2021 & AFTER- OCCUPANCY RELEASE

  1. An Occupancy Release is a request for termination of the Terms and Condition of Occupancy agreement after the Resident has taken occupancy of the space assignment or after the first day of classes for the semester, whichever occurs first. Residents wishing to voluntarily request to terminate their Terms and Condition of Occupancy agreement, must submit a contract release request through the housing portal. Submission of a contract release request is not a guarantee that the release will be granted. The University reserves the right grant or deny a contract release request in its sole discretion.  Terms and Condition of Occupancy Releases, if granted, will mean that the Resident will incur fees and charges associated with the date of the Terms and Condition of Occupancy release.  Failure to pay the Release Fee in full and pursuant to the terms in “b” below will automatically nullify and void the release and will immediately result in the reinstatement of the full amount owed being due and payable.

  2. Release Fees:

    1. Fall Semester
      1. On or after August 14, 2021: Daily rate + 50% of remaining contract (Fall & Spring) paid in full within 7 calendar days of the grant of the release.
      2. On or After October 1, 2021: Daily rate + Remainder of the Fall Semester + 40% of the Spring Semester paid in full within 7 calendar days of the grant of the release.
    2. Spring Semester
      1. On or After January 8, 2022: Daily rate + 50% of remaining semester
      2. February 14, 2022: Daily rate + Remainder of the Spring Semester
 

 

ACADEMIC YEAR 2020-2021 & Spring 21-Only

 

BEFORE YOU MOVE INTO YOUR RESIDENCE HALL

Submit a cancellation request by filling out the Contract Termination Request Form below. Requests submitted prior to the cancellation deadline will be eligible for a refund of their prepayment/deposit, assuming there are no outstanding fees or charges on the student’s account.

 

CANCELLATION DEADLINES:

 

Fall Residents who officially withdrawal from the University: 

  1. Residents who cancel on or after June 1 will forfeit half (50%) of their prepayment, $50.
  2. Residents who cancel on or after July 1 will forfeit their entire prepayment.

Eligible Fall Residents: 

  1. Residents who cancel on or after June 1 will forfeit their entire prepayment, $100.
  2. Residents who cancel on or after July 1 will forfeit their entire prepayment, $100, and receive a $250 cancellation fee.
  3. Residents who cancel their contract on or after August 1 will forfeit their entire prepayment, $100, and receive a $500 cancellation fee.
  4. Residents who cancel their contract on or after August 19, 2020 will be held responsible for the remainder of the housing charges. 

Eligible Spring Only Residents: 

  1. Residents who cancel on or after December 1, 2020 will forfeit half (50%) of their prepayment, $50.
  2. Residents who cancel on or after January 1, 2021 will forfeit their entire prepayment, $100.
  3. Residents who cancel their contract on or after January 11, 2021 will be held responsible for the remainder of the housing charges.

Effective Spring 2020, the apartments will only require a $100 prepayment.

 

AFTER YOU HAVE MOVED INTO YOUR RESIDENCE HALL

After a student has checked-in and received a key or after the meal plan associated with the contract has been used, this contract may only be cancelled by the student for the following reasons: graduation, student teaching or academic internship, marriage, or military leave.

Notification of Decision

Decisions for cancellation and termination requests are sent to the student’s ATU email account. Average review time is 2-4 weeks, but varies depending upon the nature of the request.
