Museum Course Description
MUSM (ANTH, HIST) 4403 Interpretation/Education through Museum Methods
Impart knowledge re museum National standards, perspectives, ethical positions and approaches to care and interpretation of cultural resources and the administration of museums. Introduce interpretive techniques using exhibit and outreach materials. Present the ways museums integrate interpretive programming into student and general public learning. Provide exposure to what constitutes the museum profession. Graduate level includes project or paper relevant to Museums mission and research and interpretive goals. Open to juniors, seniors and graduate level students.
The text books are: Museum Administration-An Introduction by Genoways & Ireland (2003); Exhibit Makeover s A Do-It-Yourself Workbook for Small Museums by Parman & Flowers (2008); Organizing Your Museum: The Essentials by AAM Resource Reports (1989); and Caring for Collections Strategies for Conservation, Maintenance and Documentation by AAM/Bandes (1984 ) .
