Graduate Ambassador: Venus Weaver

Venus N. Weaver is currently teaching third grade at Old Wire Road Elementary School within the Rogers Public School District. She resides in Lowell, Arkansas with her husband and two beautiful daughters. As a busy mother, wife, and teacher, she wanted to continue her education and perfect her craft while attending an institution that is focused on growing students professionally and providing skills that are applicable to today’s field of education.
With a passion for learning and teaching, Venus began her journey at the University of Arkansas- Fort Smith to pursue an Early Childhood Education degree. As a third-grade teacher, she saw a need to reach each student in her class which included serving students who were learning English as another language. She searched for the best program that would allow her to gain knowledge that would be applicable to the classroom setting and found that Arkansas Tech University was the best fit for her and the demands of a working parent.
In 2012, she received her endorsement in Teaching English as a Second Language. With the knowledge gained, she could not get enough of learning! She then went on to receive her Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from ATU. After which, Venus continued to have a passion for learning. She not only wanted to be an advocate for students, but she also wanted to be an advocate for parents and teachers within her school and community. With this newly found desire, Venus decided to continue her education at ATU to advance her knowledge in educational leadership through the Ed. S. in the Educational Leadership program. She will graduate in the fall of 2021 and plans to apply to ATU’s Ed.D in School Leadership program.
“I chose Arkansas Tech University because each concept taught was well designed to prepare me as a student and a professional. As a mom that is on the go with two continually active teenage girls, I wanted to continue my education without neglecting my responsibilities. ATU allowed me to do this by offering my degree online.”
