Online Teaching Certification Program

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Arkansas Tech University offers a certificate program to prepare licensed K-12 teachers with the knowledge and skill to teach effectively online.
The program is designed to accommodate the growing need for quality K-12 online teaching in our state, providing skills that are unique to the online environment.
The program is based on national standards:
Multimedia in the Online Classroom
Students will design online units with integrated technology tools and multimedia and create a capstone portfolio project consisting of detailed online units and assessment methods.
Total credit hours required: 12 hours
- EDMD 5033 – Introduction to Instructional Technology
- EDMD 5043 – Foundation of Curriculum Design and Evaluation
- EDMD 5053 – Online Course Development with Multimedia
- EDMD 5063 – Advanced Curriculum Design for the Online Classroom
The Online Teaching Certification Program is only offered during summer term and is designed for teachers to complete all requirements during that timeframe. EDMD 5033 and EDMD 5043 are taught concurrently during Summer I. EDMD 5053 and EDMD 5063 are taught concurrently during Summer II.
There are no textbooks required.
Readings for the courses are gathered from a variety of sources and located within the instructional modules for each course on Blackboard.
Students are required to have a free Google account, a free Microsoft account, Microsoft Office (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel), a headphone, and a webcam with a built-in microphone for multimedia production activities.
- Current teacher license or enrollment in an alternative licensure program
- Admission to Graduate College
Recommended: Two years of teaching experience
