AGS COVID Statement - July 23, 2021

Three in-person students and one in-person faculty member at AGS have tested positive for COVID-19. Health care professionals and support personnel are engaged in contact tracing and will notify any AGS students, faculty or staff who are identified as close contacts of the individuals who have tested positive.

All AGS students, faculty and staff are being advised to closely monitor their health for symptoms of COVID-19 and take appropriate precautions to protect themselves and those around them. These recommended precautions include social distancing, face coverings and frequent hand washing.

Under the ongoing consultation of health care and public health experts, we will continue to offer the in-person AGS experience to students at this time. As has been the case since the 42nd Arkansas Governor's School convened on July 5, we will continue to closely evaluate the situation and make decisions that are in the best interest of AGS students, faculty and staff as well as the larger community as we move toward the completion of AGS 2021 on Sunday, Aug. 1. The possibility of pivoting to virtual learning for all AGS students remains an option if the situation worsens.

If you wish for the student or students under your care to return home and transition to the virtual version of AGS for the remainder of the program as a result of this news, you may come to Baswell Techionery room 202 on the Arkansas Tech University campus with photo identification to check out your student. The address for Baswell Techionery is 306 West O Street in Russellville.

The health and safety of our AGS students, faculty and staff is our primary concern. We wish good health for you and your family.

Sincerely,

Dr. Robin Lasey

Director

Arkansas Governor's School
