Emily Hoffman joined the English Department in the fall of 2010. In addition to teaching
at Oklahoma State, the University of Kansas, and Johnson County Community College
before coming to Tech, Dr. Hoffman worked as a technical writer and editor for the
Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Her novel The Getaway Girl
opens with the following passage.
This would be the seventh summer without her. When Jill left, Andy Quinn had been young, exactly seventeen days from his twenty-third birthday. The young were supposed to be resilient. That was the whole point of youth as he understood it, yet something in him was defective and he had not been able to do it. Move on. Get over it.
