Sigma Delta Pi recognizes high-achieving students of Spanish. Tech's Psi Omicron chapter has been nationally recognized five times for outstanding activities. For 2019-2020, Tech's chapter was one of only 11 of 627 chapters that was recognized. You can read the award letter from the Executive Director and view the certificate by clicking here:

In addition to academic excellence, candidates for membership must demonstrate a keen interest in the Spanish language and a desire and commitment to promote the study of Hispanic language, literature and culture. Requirements for memberships:

  • Completion of at least three semesters of college course work.
  • Completion of at least 18 semester hours of college-level Spanish or the equivalent, including at least three semester hours of a third-year literature or civilization and culture course (i.e. 3000-level or higher) at Arkansas Tech University.
  • A grade average of B or better in all college-level Spanish courses completed.
  • A cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or better in all college courses completed.

 
Sigma Delta Pi activities: monthly meetings lower-level-tutoring for Tech students lectures by outside academics workshops for Hispanic parents and students about the value of higher education, academic preparation for college, and financial aid opportunities English language instruction for Spanish-speaking students and immigrants translation help during parent-teacher conferences in the Russellville School District interpretation help at River Valley Clinic in Dardanelle participation in Oakland Heights Elementary School's Hispanic Celebration Day
