Applications are available at the beginning of each fall semester. If any spaces are available, UB Staff will select applicants by the end of October each year. If you would like more information about the Upward Bound program, please contact the UB Office

How to Apply for Upward Bound

Enrollment is open to 9th and 10th grade students at Atkins, Dover, Hector, Lamar, or Pottsville High Schools. Students must be willing to participate in some after-school, weekend, and summer activities. Applicants must be willing to participate in Upward Bound program requirements and have the desire to go to college.

Students chosen to participate must meet income guidelines as set by the federal government and/or be a potential first-generation college student (neither parent possesses a four-year college degree). Once selected for the program, the student will participate each year until graduating high school.

To apply, each candidate must submit:

An Upward Bound Application;

Recommendation from school counselor, English teacher, and math or science teacher (recommendation forms are attached to application);

A personal essay;

Current high school transcript and class schedule
