Mariel Ledbetter chose Tech at age 16. After being diagnosed with lupus and having to leave high school for treatment, Tech allowed her to begin working on her college degree. While working to get her health in check, Mariel says Tech teachers and students were always willing to help her when she had to miss class.
Once healthy, Mariel embraced her studies and the life of a traditional college student-- joining a sorority and other campus organizations.
Majoring in speech communication and minoring in rehabilitation science, Mariel hopes to continue her education and enter a career field where she can help others.
