Arkansas Tech University Historical Timeline
1909 Second District Agricultural School was created by an act of the Arkansas General Assembly.
1910 The school opened its doors for students in the fall.
1912 The first high school class graduated.
1921 Freshman year of college work was offered.
1922 Sophomore year of college work was offered.
1923 Junior year of college work was offered.
1924 Senior year of college work was offered.
1925 General Assembly changed the name to Arkansas Polytechnic College.
1927 The school became a junior college in the fall.
1929 The four years of secondary work were dropped, one year at a time, and the last high school class graduated.
1948 Board of Trustees converted the junior college to a degree granting institution. The Junior College offered its first semester of third-year college work.
1949 The Junior College offered its first semester of fourth year college work.
1950 The first baccalaureate degrees are awarded at the end of the 1949-50 spring semester.
1975 Graduate courses were first offered in the summer.
1976 A Master of Education degree was established. The name of Arkansas Polytechnic College was changed to Arkansas Tech University effective July 9, 1976
1985 Tech reorganized its programs into the Schools of Business, Education, Liberal and Fine Arts, Physical and Life Sciences, and Systems Science.
