Applicants should be prepared to provide contact details, institutional and departmental/disciplinary affiliation, and a 75 word abstract summarizing paper or poster projects. Students may submit abstracts individually or propose and organize a group session organized around a common theme, research topic, or a specific project. Individual submissions that are accepted for participation will be grouped together by discipline and/or research focus. Applications are due by November 2, 2009. All applicants will be notified by email about the status of their submission by November 6, 2009. Costs and Payment Information: To make this conference affordable to students throughout the Mid-South region, registration fees are $30 per participant. Registration fees include lunch with a keynote speaker. Persons wishing to attend the conference but not presenting a paper or poster may register at a reduced cost of $25 per applicant. Specific payment options are listed on the symposium registration page of this site. Even if accepted to present, students may not participate in the conference until payment is secured. By submitting an application, applicants grant ATU the authority to process conference payments after papers are accepted: you will not be charged unless your paper is accepted for presentation. Attendees who register as non-participants will have their payment information processed immediately. Jack Hamm Student Paper Award Two student papers will be selected as winners of the Jack Hamm Student Research Award, which comes with a cash prizes of $75 and $25 for the winner and runner-up, respectively. Until his retirement in 2008, Dr. Hamm served as Vice President of Academic Affairs at ATU and was an important catalyst for encouraging student-led research opportunities at Tech. As an early supporter of this conference, we honor his service to the university and the central Arkansas region. To be considered for the award, conference participants must submit a complete copy of their research paper or poster to wschumann@atu.edu no later than November 6, 2009. Helpful Tips for Paper and Poster Participants Papers: Depending on the number of participants in a given paper session, students will have between 15 and 20 minutes to summarize and discuss their research. If reading directly from the research paper, therefore, this typically works out that papers should be no longer than eight double-spaced pages. Posters: Posters should be designed to accommodate a 3’ x 5’ board. Posters should contain all aspects of a standard manuscript (i.e., title, authors, affiliations, introduction, method, results, discussion, graphs/tables). Font should be large enough to read from a distance (e.g., 16 point) and easy to read (e.g., Times New Roman). Be able to give a brief presentation to interested attendees.
