On October 3, 1970, three ambitious and diligent young ladies met in the lounge of Jones Hall to begin an organization known as Alpha Lambda Zeta. Their first president was Ms. Nancy Gilbert of Magazine, Arkansas. Bearing an appropriate name, meaning "beginning love sisters," Alpha Lambda Zeta became the second women's organization on the campus of Arkansas Tech University. Dr. Robert Bolen served as the organization's first advisor.
In January of 1976, the sisters of Alpha Lambda Zeta began to petition Zeta Tau Alpha to become a colony. The colony was installed on the weekend of January 20-22 as the 174th chapter of the international fraternity of Zeta Tau Alpha. Theta Theta Chapter became the first national fraternity on TECH's campus and since their installation nearly 25 years ago, the Theta Theta ZTA's have excelled at the university and national level.
