Accounting Club Constitution
PREAMBLE
WHEREAS, we the members of the Accounting Club of Arkansas Tech University are
formed for fellowship among all interested in accounting during their college
days as a student and to serve as a guide into the accounting world am a
practitioner, and
WHEREAS, we believe that fellowship among college students in accounting should
involve the Principles of scholarship, practicality, and sociability, and
WHEREAS, we as members, shall strive toward these principles as a student and
will strive toward these principles as a practitioner.
ARTICLE I
Government of the Club
This Constitution, together with its amendments and by-laws, shall be the
Supreme law for this organization and. shall be known as the Accounting Club
Constitution. Robert's Rules of Order Revised shall govern the parliamentary
conduct of this club and its committees, except where otherwise provided in the
constitution and by-laws.
ARTICLE II
Purpose
The purpose of this Accounting Club shall be to encourage the ideal of service
as the basis of the accounting profession; to promote the study of accountancy
and its highest ethical standards; to act as a medium between professionals,
instructors, students, and others who are interested in the development of the
study or profession of accountancy; to develop high moral, scholastic and
professional attainments in its members; and to help pave the way from student
to practitioner.
ARTICLE III
The Executive Committee
Section 1. The members of the Executive Committee shall consist of the elected
officers of the Accounting Club.
Section 2. The President of the Accounting Club will preside over all Executive
Committee meetings.
Section 3. The President should call the meeting with four members constituting
a quorum.
Section 4. The Executive Committee shall make, interpret, and execute the laws
of the club. Any decision that affects the Accounting Club as a group should be
presented to the club membership for approval.
Section 5. Any member of the Accounting Club may attend committee meetings with
an invitation from a member of the executive committee or by special request.
Section 6. The Executive Committee will be held responsible for all activities
of the Accounting Club.
Section 7. The minutes of the Executive Committee should be read at the general
membership meetings.
ARTICLE IV
Officers of the Accounting Club
Section 1. The election of officers shall be held in the latter part of the
spring semester as designated by the executive committee. This election should
be after the spring initiation so the new members will be eligible to vote.
Section 2. Nominations for any office in the Accounting Club shall take place at
least one week before the elections.
Section 3. All officers will be elected by secret ballot.
Section 4. The officers-elect shall be installed on or before the last meeting
of the regular school year in which elected. The past officers should make
installation
Section 5. The club shall have the power by majority vote to declare any office
vacant on account of the continued absence or inability of an officer properly
to administer the duties of his or her office, and the power to elect officers
to fill such vacancies.
Section 6. The officers of the Accounting Club should include a President,
Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Section 7. The President must be a senior in the fall term following his
election.
Section 8. The Vice-President may be a junior in the fall term following his
election.
Section 9. Other offices may be filled from the general membership of the club.
ARTICLE V
Duties of the Officers
Section 1. The President shall preside at all meetings of the Accounting Club
and Executive Committee; appoint such committees as may be provided in the
Constitution or by-laws or by vote of the membership; be responsible for all
club programs and reports; and generally, promote the welfare of the club.
Section 2. The Vice-President should take over the Presidents responsibilities
when the President is not available. He or she should serve on committees and
promote the welfare of the club.
Section 3. The Secretary should take notes of the regular meetings. The notes
should be typed and made available to members. The Secretary should file all
typed notes in a notebook, properly dated, to be used as a reference in the
future.
Section 4. The Treasurer is responsible for all the club's finances, His duties
consist of collecting all dues; approving and paying all expenditures, and
accounting to the membership at each meeting as to the club's financial
position.
Section 5. Additional duties may be required by each officer according to the
constitution, the by-laws, or vote of the club.
ARTICLE VI
Membership
Section 1. Deleted and replaced with Article IX, Section 1.
Section 2. Deleted and replaced with Article IX, Section 2.
Section 3. Faculty membership shall be granted to all faculty members holding a
full time teaching position on the accounting faculty.
Section 4. Alumni members shall be those former active members who have
graduated with a major in accounting.
Section 5. Honorary members shall be those members accepted by the club for the
outstanding personal and professional attainment in the field of
accounting--public or private-- or their contact with the accounting department
at Arkansas Tech University.
Section 6. Any student who meets the above qualifications will be eligible for
an invitation for membership. All eligible students should be presented to the
club for proposed membership.
ARTICLE VII
Organization and Procedure
Section 1. The club year shall correspond to the school year.
Section 2. The regular meetings of the club shall be held twice monthly, on a
day and time to be determined by the club.
Section 3. Special meetings of the club may be called by the president at his or
her discretion or when so requested in writing by five members of the club.
Section 4. Elections to membership maybe held in the fall and spring of the year
depending on the demands, but the spring election should be held before the
election of officers.
Section 5. Ten due-paying members shall constitute a quorum, or if membership is
more than 100 members, 10% of the members.
Section 6. The dues for the club are twenty-five dollars per year or fifteen
dollars per semester.
Section 7. All dues should be paid to the Treasurer by the second meeting in
each semester and deposited in a school fund.
Section 8. The order of business for a regular meeting should be as follows:
Meeting called to order; discussion of old business with committee reports;
discussion of new business with committee reports; presentation of program; and
adjournment.
Section 9. A member who is absent 3 consecutive meetings shall be declared
inactive and lose his or her, power to vote. He or she must attend 2 consecutive
meetings to become active.
ARTICLE VIII
Amendments
Section 1. The constitution and by-laws may be amended, suspended, added to, or
stricken out by a 4/5 vote of the regular membership.
Section 2. All approval amendments maybe added to the constitution and by-laws
under Article II - Additional Amendments.
ARTICLE IX
Additional Amendements
Section 1. Membership: In order to encourage scholarship as one of the clubs
objectives, students shall be considered eligible to an active membership in the
club if their average grade in accounting subjects is 2.5 or more or whose
general average in all subjects is 2.0 or more based on a 4 point system.
Section 2. Active members must be accounting majors with plans for taking future
advanced courses.
Section 3. In addition to officers listed in Article IV, Section 6: historian
has been added.
