Purpose:	The purpose of the organization is to confer distinction for high achievement in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies in English language and literature; to provide cultural stimulation on college campuses; to furnish community interest within English departments; and to encourage creative and critical writing.
Membership Requirements :	Membership is open to undergraduate students who are either a major or minor in English, have taken at least two literature courses beyond the freshman requirements, have a minimum of a 3.000 GPA in English, rank in the highest 35 % of the class in cumulative GPA, and have completed three semesters of college courses.
