Journalism Program
Arkansas Tech's journalism program offers students flexible alternatives in their
education. Students can choose an emphasis in broadcast, print or public relations
and tailor course schedules to fit their interests. Whether writing for the student
newspaper, The Arka Tech, anchoring on TechTV, disc jockeying on the student-led radio station, KXRJ-FM, or interning locally, students are given many opportunities to gain hands-on experience
and job training.
Public Relations
The Public Relations Option is the newest and fastest growing section of the Tech's
journalism program. Students gain practical experience in planning, writing and design
through four classes: Public Relations Principles, Public Relations Writing, Graphic
Communications and Public Relations Project. Students majoring in Journalism must
also take three core classes: Introduction to Mass Communication, News Writing and
Mass Communication Theory. Four hours of practicum (TV, Radio or Multimedia) and six
hours of electives are also required.
Print
The Print Option allows students the opportunity to expand and perfect their writing
and editing skills. Students are required to take four classes: News Editing, News
Reporting, Feature Writing and Advanced Reporting. Many students also choose to write
for The ArkaTech, the student-led weekly newspaper. Students majoring in Journalism
must also take three core classes: Introduction to Mass Communication, News Writing
and Mass Communication Theory. Four hours of practicum (TV, Radio or Multimedia) and
six hours of electives are also required.

television industry. The option requires students to take four classes: Introduction
to Telecommunication, Broadcast News Writing, TV Production and Advanced Reporting
or Advanced Photography and Video. Students majoring in Journalism must also take
