Dr. Merlin Mann joined the Tech faculty in 2012 as an associate professor of journalism. He came with 25 years of experience in the collegiate classroom at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. He also has seven-plus years of experience in daily media with writing and editing experience at various newspapers and as the web news manager at a newspaper and at a television station. His primary goal in the classroom is to help students prepare for jobs in traditional media, in new media, in related fields or for the continued study of mass communication. His doctoral dissertation was a study of journalistic interviewing, an evaluation of interview effectiveness by interviewers and respondents. Although he enjoys theoretical debates on many subjects, his teaching passion has always been focused on helping students develop the necessary, practical skills that will help them get jobs and then excel as professionals within the changing, challenging and competitive media environment.
