Anthony Caton has been department head of Speech, Theatre & Journalism since 2011. He was named Tech's director of broadcasting in July 2004. Caton has over 30 years of professional experience in television, radio, and print ranging from TV anchor and reporter to radio station general manager to newspaper editor-in-chief. He has taught communication and journalism at numerous universities. Caton's foremost goal as an educator is for his students to be prepared for the workplace. "At Arkansas Tech broadcast students can hone their skills each day in the areas of writing, reporting, producing, and shooting and editing video and audio. Our vast internship program is also very helpful in the networking process for students," he adds. Caton was nominated for Tech's "Professor of the Year" in 2011 and won the "Teaching Excellence" award at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith in 2004. He also was awarded a $10,000 grant from Entergy Corporation in June 2012 for funds to be used for Tech broadcasting. Aside from teaching and his administrative work, Caton collects kinescopes and 16mm film of classic television broadcasts. He is also writing a book on the history of broadcasting. You can contact Anthony Caton at acaton@atu.edu or (479) 964-0890.
