Noted clarinetist to perform at Tech on Monday

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (March 26, 2008)--Mingzhe Wang, assistant professor of music at Austin Peay State University, will perform a program of clarinet classics at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 31, at Witherspoon Auditorium on the Arkansas Tech University campus.

            Wang will be accompanied by pianist Brian Conatser and clarinetist Dr. Luc Jackman, both of the Arkansas Tech music faculty. The recital will include works by Bassi, Schumann, Brahms and Poulenc. The performance is free and open to the public.

            Monday’s recital was made possible by a grant from the Casey Foundation.

            Wang studied at the Wuhan Conservatory of Music (1988-94) and at the Central Conservatory of Music (1994-97), both in his native country of China.

Since coming to the United States, Wang has earned degrees from Lynn University and Yale University. In 2004, he received the Yale School of Music Alumni Association Prize for excelling in his field and making important contributions to the school. He also won the 1999 National Society of Arts and Letters Woodwind Competition.

Wang’s orchestral experience includes the Clarion Music Society Orchestra, the American Classical Orchestra, the New Britain Symphony Orchestra, the Miami Symphony Orchestra, the Atlantic Classical Orchestra, the Symphony of the Americas and the Yale Symphony Orchestra.
