RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (February 25, 2008)---Students living in the residence halls at Arkansas Tech University participated in a coin drive earlier this month to raise funds for tornado relief in the Pope County community of Atkins.
The coin drive was part of the Helping Halls program organized by the Arkansas Tech Office of Residential Life.
Luci Zieman, resident director at Baswell Hall and graduate assistant for volunteer service and leadership, coordinated with resident assistants in each hall and asked them to collect change while on duty between Feb. 12-22.
The donations added up to $415.22, which was given to the local chapter of the American Red Cross on Friday to assist the organization in its ongoing efforts to help Atkins recover from the Feb. 5 storm that destroyed or damaged dozens of homes and took the lives of four residents.
