Tech Music Department to present holiday concert

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (November 28, 2007)--Performances by the University Choir, Chamber Choir, Concert Chorale and Arkansas Tech Percussion Ensemble will highlight the sixth annual Feast of Carols on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 2:30 p.m. in Witherspoon Auditorium.

The concert, presented by the Arkansas Tech University Music Department, will be free and open to the public. The choirs are under the direction of Gary Morris, and they are accompanied by Brian Conatser.

“This is a very special concert for me because it will be the last concert for several choir members that were in the first class that I recruited at Tech,” said Morris.

The 75-voice University Singers will open the program. Their performance will include an appearance by Tech student Keith Reeves as conductor and solos by Sonya Lovelace-Crumpton and violinist Brianna Settles.

Reeves will return as a soloist during the 34-voice Chamber Choir portion of the program. Other soloists during the Chamber Choir’s performance will include Tiffany Reeves, Jordan Bennett, Shaun Wiseman and Curtis Minor.

The 64-voice Concert Chorale will then take the stage and open with "Echo Noel," which Morris described as “Tech’s signature Christmas choral selection.” Later, Bennett will conduct his composition, a setting of "Ave Maria." Accompanists during the Concert Chorale performance will include Conatser and Amanda Jones.

The Arkansas Tech Percussion Ensemble will perform at several junctures during the concert. The group, directed by Philip Parker, will perform arrangements of such traditional holiday favorites as "Carol of the Bells," "O Holy Night" and "Silent Night."
