Clarke, Norton receive academic advising awards

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (March 11, 2008)---Linda Clarke and Dr. Hanna Norton of Arkansas Tech University were honored for their work on behalf of Tech students during the annual Arkansas Academic Advising Network (ArkAAN) Conference at Arkansas State University on Feb. 29.

Clarke, director of the Tech Academic Advising Center, was named Outstanding Academic Advising Administrator of the Year. She has been employed by Tech since 1984, and she has served as director of the academic advising center since 1997.

“Mrs. Clarke’s positive attitude and want to help gave me the confidence to do well in my classes,” wrote student Marika Moore in her letter of recommendation. “Because of her caring nature and her ability to pick professors to compliment my learning style, I call her the compass to my life at Tech.”

Norton, associate professor of journalism at Arkansas Tech, received the Outstanding Faculty Academic Advising award. She has served on the Tech faculty since 2001. In addition to advising students enrolled in the public relations option of the journalism program, Norton is one of six faculty members chosen to assist in the advising each year of Tech’s freshman class. She also serves as advisor for the Tech chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America.

“Dr. Norton has been my professor and advisor since fall 2005,” wrote student Ashley Snellenberger in her letter of recommendation. “During this time, she has shown her dedication to her job, students and community. What makes Dr. Norton so great is her ability to manage so many different tasks and responsibilities, and at the same time continuously be there for her students.”
