Campus Announcements: February 25, 2008

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (February 25, 2008)—Below is a collection of recent announcements of news from around the Arkansas Tech University campus.

            Brief announcements like these are periodically gathered and placed on www.atu.edu as a means of informing the campus community of events at Tech.

PRSSA to host guest speaker Monday afternoon

            The Arkansas Tech University chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) will host Christie Graham, executive director of tourism for the Russellville Advertising and Promotions Commission, as its guest speaker on Monday, Feb. 25.

            Graham will speak in Tomlinson Hall Room 126 at 4:30 p.m. All students, faculty and staff are invited. For more information, contact Kelsey Boyd at kboyd1@atu.edu.

Walt Disney World offers internship program

Representatives from Walt Disney World will be at Arkansas Tech University on Tuesday, Feb. 26, to give a presentation about the organization’s internship program.

The presentation will be made from 1-4 p.m. in the Doc Bryan Student Services Building Senate Room (Room 180). All interested students are encouraged to attend. 

“Be Comfortable in Your Genes” presentation Tuesday night

            The Arkansas Tech Counseling Center will present “Be Comfortable in Your Genes,” a presentation about body image, eating disorders and related topics, at Baswell Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

            The presentation will begin at 8:30 p.m. It will include a short video and discussion of media depictions of men and women and the media’s impact on our eating habits and relationship to dieting.

            Persons attending the event should enter Baswell Hall at the entrance closest to the main gates for the football stadium. For more information, contact the Tech Counseling Center at (479) 880-2240.

Reality Check game show at Doc Bryan on Wednesday

            The Arkansas Tech Safe Spring Break 2008 Committee will host “Reality Check,” a fast-paced trivia game show, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Doc Bryan Student Services Building Lecture Hall.

            There will be prizes for attendees. The event is part of a series designed to help students make good decisions during the upcoming Spring Break.

Student Activities Board to host Big Money Bingo

            One of the most popular student activities of each academic year will return to the Arkansas Tech University campus on Tuesday, March 11, when the Student Activities Board presents Big Money Bingo beginning at 9 p.m. in the Young Building Ballroom.

            Last year’s prizes included a laptop computer, airline travel voucher, Nintendo Wii video game system, digital camera, Apple iPod and much more.

Pope County CERT training at Tech March 14-16

Persons interested in becoming part of the Pope County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will have an opportunity to attend training March 14-16 at Arkansas Tech University.

The training will be from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, March 14, and Saturday, March 15. It will conclude with a third and final session from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 16.

The Pope County CERT is a volunteer organization that allows trained residents to become active in recovery efforts when disasters strike our area.
