Arkansas Tech student journalists honored by ACMA

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (April 21, 2008)--Arkansas Tech University students on the staffs of the Arka Tech newspaper, Agricola yearbook and TV6 television station received 14 awards during the annual Arkansas College Media Association (ACMA) awards ceremony in Jonesboro on Friday, April 18.

            Arkansas Tech’s 2008 ACMA award winners from the Arka Tech are: Ryan Casey McShane, first place, front page design; Antonius Armand, first place, feature photo; Megan Morris, third place, in-depth news; Nick Stinson, honorable mention, sports story writing; Justin O’Dell, honorable mention, review writing.

            Tanna Bartlett of the Agricola staff earned honorable mention honors in the yearbook cover category.

            Tech’s ACMA winners for 2008 in the television categories are: J.R. Davis, anchor of the year, reporter of the year and first place, news package; Christie Hart-White, producer of the year and third place, feature package; and Carrie Harris, third place, news package.

            TV6 also received the ACMA Excellence in Broadcasting award and the best weekly newscast award. It was the second consecutive year for TV6 to receive both of those awards.

            Tommy Mumert, assistant professor of journalism, is the student publications advisor at Arkansas Tech. Anthony Caton, also an assistant professor of journalism, serves as the university’s director of broadcasting.
