Eagle Tour @ Lake Dardanelle


Date: Feb. 4th    Registration: Jan 16th - Feb 9th    Location:  Lake Dardanelle State Park, AR

Join Outdoor Recreation as we take a Lake Cruise with Arkansas State Parks to view Eagles and many other wildlife species that call our local lake, home. The temperatures will be cold, so dress warmly and comfortably. The tour will be on February 4th and will start at around 11am and go till approximately 12pm. Attendees need to be there 25-30 min early as loading of the boat will start at around 10:45am. This is a great opportunity to explore the local lake and surroundings. Goat Trail Hike


Date: Feb. 25th      Registration: Jan 16th - Feb 22nd           Location: Ponca, AR

The Goat Trail is a narrow 3-4 foot wide ledge which runs on the edge of Big Bluff. At 550 ft. tall, Big Bluff is the tallest bluff along the Buffalo River. Big Bluff and the Goat Trail which overlook the Buffalo River Valley are the destinations of a spin-off trail accessed from Centerpoint trail which is located in Ponca, AR. It must be said that the Goat Trail is to be taken very seriously, inexperienced hikers, people who experience vertigo or a fear of heights would be best to choose another hiking trip with Outdoor Rec.

Wild Cave Tour at Blanchard Springs Caverns


Date: Mar. 11th.     Registration: Feb 10th - Mar 8th     Location: Blanchard Springs, AR

Join outdoor recreation in the opportunity to explore Blanchard Springs Caverns in a guided spelunking tour. This trip has limited space, so be sure to sign up as soon as possible when sign-up opens. You will need to create an account on IMLeagues.com first, if you don't already have an account, and sign up for the event through the IMLeagues website. Tour participants should expect to climb very steep slopes, crawl on hands and knees, pass under low ceilings, and travel through red clay. The tour ends at the Titans, a group of tall spectacular columns. Hard hats, kneepads, coveralls, gloves, and lights are provided. Participants must wear sturdy boots with ankle support and aggressive tread, bring street shoes for after the tour, and any medications needed. Travel and trip is free for all students!!!

Lost Valley Hike


Date: Apr. 8th     Registration: Mar 7th - Apr. 5th.      Location: Lost Valley Trail, AR

With good reason, this is the most popular hiking trail in the national park, as well as the state of Arkansas. There is never a bad time to hike Lost Valley---it's as beautiful in winter as it is in springtime. This is a 2.5 mile round trip hike. We will meet at Tucker Coliseum at 8:45 a.m. and be back in Russellville by 3:45 p.m. If you have any questions please contact Steven Walton at swalton1@atu.edu or 479-968-0276. Camping and Canoeing Trip


Date: Apr. 21st-22nd.      Registration: Mar 16th - Apr. 18th.      Location: Ponca, AR

Join Campus Rec - Outdoor Recreation as we set out for the first camping trip of the year! We will take off from the campus Friday afternoon and head to the Erbie campground in the Buffalo National River area. This campground is primitive with vault restrooms and designated camping spots. We will be able to enjoy sitting around a camp fire, watch the night sky, and fish the Buffalo River. Students will need to bring their own tents and sleeping bags. More detailed information can be found on the IMLeagues.com sign up site. On Saturday, we will pack up the campsite and head to the Buffalo Outdoor Center, where we will pick up canoes and set down the Buffalo River for a day of canoeing. We will then return to ATU later that afternoon. Great opportunity for some awesome fun! Horseshoe Canyon Ranch - Bouldering

Join Campus Recreation as we head to Horseshoe Canyon Ranch for a day of Bouldering. Great opportunity to learn what Bouldering is all about for those new to it, and a great opportunity for experienced boulderers to help teach it.
