College of Natural and Health Sciences.


The College is subdivided into four departments each with their own program areas - Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Mathematics and Nursing.

The departments offer a variety of major programs leading to masters, baccalaureate and associate degrees. A secondary service is that of contributing to the general education of those students majoring outside the College. Students earning a degree offered by the College are in a good position for entry into professional or graduate schools or entry into the job market. Professions in health care and those related to the environment are expected to continue to offer excellent employment opportunities.


Mission Statement and Learning Objectives

The faculty and staff members of the College are dedicated to providing, high quality educational experiences for undergraduate students who choose to major in biological sciences, health sciences, mathematics, physical sciences or science education. In addition to our dedication to quality education, we strive to create a friendly atmosphere in which students may interact with the faculty and fellow students. Individualized academic advising, career counseling, and academic tutoring are available daily upon request. In addition to the traditional lecture method, the faculty strive to prepare classroom demonstrations, challenging laboratory exercises, and clinical and field experiences that provide a "real world" dimension to academic studies. Also, undergraduate student research is emphasized, thus providing in-depth experience with the scientific method, data collection, report writing, and  the theoretical knowledge base of an academic discipline.

The geographic setting of our campus is ideal for field studies in the biological sciences and geology. The lakes, rivers, mountains, and forests surrounding our campus also provide numerous opportunities for hiking, boating, camping, hunting, and fishing. So, if you enjoy outdoor activities, you will like studying science at Arkansas Tech University. The campus has a rural setting, but that does not mean that the more traditional laboratory science curricula are neglected.

Biology, chemistry, and physics courses are taught in modern well-equipped laboratories. Mathematics courses as well as pre-professional curricula in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, optometry, medical technology, dental hygiene and physical therapy are also available. The health sciences of nursing, medical assisting, and health information management are well established and successful programs of study.
