Kenneth Futterer is an Associate Professor of Music. He holds the B.M and M.M. in Composition from the University of North Texas with minors in both Performance and Theory. Professor Futterer brings to his studio a wide array of talents and experience. He has been the principal oboist for the North Dallas Chamber Orchestra, the Northwest Arkansas Symphony, the Ft. Smith Symphony, the River Valley Symphony, and has performed oboe and English horn with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. Professor Futterer is a member of "Jazz Reunion," and the "John Cotton Quartet", where he performs saxophone and keyboards. In addition, he is the music director and conductor for Tech's Music Theatre, the Arkansas River Valley Community Theater and the River Valley Players. Professor Futterer's teaching responsibilities at Tech include Applied Bassoon, Oboe and Saxophone, Composition, Advanced Theory classes, Jazz Improvisation, the on-line version of Music Appreciation and, with Holly Gale, Music Theatre Workshop. In addition, Professor Futterer maintains a large private oboe studio. Important teachers have been Donald L. Gerhauser, Yano Salto, Harvey Pittel, Miriam Paul, Charles Veazey, Ray Still, Martin Mailman and William P. Latham. Professor Futterer was appointed by Governor Mike Huckabee to the Arkansas State Arts & Humanities Advisory Council where he served for 10 years, is a member of Opera in the Ozarks National Council and is now serving as president of The Dance Foundation and president of the Arkansas Tech University Faculty Senate.
