Cynthia Hukill, Ph.D.
Dr. Cynthia Hukill is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Music at Arkansas Tech University. She holds the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance from the University of North Texas, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music. Her teachers include Richard Cass (UMKC), Larry Walz and Stephan Bardas (UNT), and Wayne Griffith (University of Central Arkansas). A native of Conway, Arkansas, she has held teaching positions at Henderson State University (Arkadelphia, Arkansas), and Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri, where she was Coordinator of Music and Director of the Avila Music Festival, a 50 year tradition in the Kansas City area. Prior to coming to Arkansas Tech, she was Director of Piano Studies at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, where she also served on the selection committee of the Missouri Southern International Piano Competition. Dr. Hukill maintains an active performance schedule as a soloist and chamber musician and serves frequently as an adjudicator and clinician throughout the Midwest and southern states. Her list of international performances and masterclasses includes tours of Australia, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom. Dr. Hukill was awarded national certification through the Music Teachers National Association, and is a member of MTNA, the Arkansas State Music Teachers Association, the Arkansas State Band and Orchestra Association, the College Music Society, and the American Liszt Society.
