GENERAL PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Data Analysis 101 is targeting math and/or science teachers in 5th
grades through the 9th grade that are experiencing poor student
performance
in the Data Analysis and Probability strand in the middle level
mathematics frameworks and/or the Nature of Science
strands of the middle level science frameworks dealing with data
analysis. Teachers will
receive instruction through modeling of strategies for creating deeper understanding of data analysis techniques.
Problem solving is a primary focus of both the math and science
curriculum. To problem solve, students must understand how to
analyze information assimilated. Through this program, teachers
will have instructional strategies modeled for them that will
enable students to gain confidence in conducting data analyses with
or without the use of technology.
The program will be offered as year-long program so that
strategies modeled in the program can be applied in the
classroom and without over-burdening the participating teachers.
The program is designed as a "hybrid" class--that is, part of it
will be face-to-face meetings with the instructors and part of
it will be online as a Blackboard Course.
Seven (7) one-day meetings will be required (all on Saturdays),
3 in the fall, 4 in the spring for a total of 36 hours of
face-to-face meetings. Twenty-four (24 hours) over the
course of the year will be through online guided instructional
activities, discussions, etc. via Blackboard.
Classroom visitations for mentoring and observing are also a
component of the program
“This project is
