Global Connect Applications are currently being accepted for Fall 2009! Program Overview
Global Connect provides Arkansas Tech University students with the opportunity to serve as mentors to international students. The primary purpose of the program is to assist international students with academic, social and cultural adjustments through friendship and support. Coordinated through the Office of International and Multicultural Student Services, Global Connect mentors provide international students with immediate peer support and encouragement upon their arrival to the Arkansas Tech University campus and throughout their collegiate experience. Goals - Welcome international students to Arkansas Tech University
- Provide support and encouragement
- Assist students with making new friends and campus connections
- Show the “positive” ropes of college
- Role model good character and academic performance
- Help new students improve English listening and speaking skills
Basic Expectations - Attend campus events and programs with your partner
- Make personal contact either via telephone or e-mail each week during the semester
- Meet with your conversation partner for one hour each week to practice English speaking and listening skills
- Have fun and learn about other cultures!
