Health Services
Primary health care is offered on an out-patient basis. This includes:
health education
health promotion
health maintenance
health history and physical assessment
first aid including bandages and crutches
Limited number of routine clinical laboratory procedures
treatment for illness
Students are seen on a drop-in basis and are screened and assessed by a registered nurse. They may be treated or referred to a local Heath Care provider, depending on the nature of the visit. When a specialist's care is indicated the nurse will assist with the referral.
All students are eligible for health services. A portion of the general student fee (tuition) is set aside for the health service. All services with other health care providers or agencies are at the student's own expense. The local hospital provides physician services on a 24-hour basis for emergencies.
Students who do not have hospital insurance policies might consider purchasing a basic policy which the University offers through a private agency. Brochures describing this policy are available throughout the year at the Health Center and online.
