Immunization Requirements
In accordance with Arkansas State Law Act 141 of 1987, and revised Arkansas Department of Health Immunization Rules and Regulations revised 2009, all full-time students and those part-time residing on campus are REQUIRED to provide legal proof of immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), to the Student Health Clinic.
To prove immunity, students must provide documentation of TWO MMRs from an official immunization record from a licensed medical doctor, an authorized public health representative, or a military record. An official record from another educational institution in Arkansas is also acceptable. In lieu of receiving the vaccine, immunity can be shown by providing documented evidence of appropriate serological testing. (Lab titers for measles, mumps and rubella)
Exception include those students who were born prior to January 1, 1957 and those who have applied for or received a medical or non-medical exemption (philosophical exemption) from the Arkansas Department of Health. A statement must be provided stating that the exemption is in process of approval from the Arkansas Department of Health.
Recommended Immunizations
The following are immunizations for incoming college students as RECOMMENDED by the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) and the American College Health Association (ACHA). These are NOT REQUIRED. Vaccine-preventable diseases continue to occur on American campuses and this can be a good time to update any immunizations to help prevent these diseases.
Vaccine Recommendation:
Tetanus/Diptheria/Pertussis (TDAP) Booster every 10 years
MMR Two doses for lifetime immunity
Hepatitis A Vaccine Two doses for lifetime immunity
Hepatitis B Vaccine Three doses for a lifetime immunity
Influenza Vaccine Offered yearly
Menveo (Meningitis Vaccine) Protects against 4 of the 5 strains of
Bacterial Meningitis. One dose for immunity
