Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track
position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Recreation and Park Administration
within the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Hospitality Administration. This is
a nine-month position with the possible opportunity for summer instruction with an
anticipated start date of August 2013. The successful candidate will be responsible
for instruction of undergraduate courses, advising students, supervising interns,
and establishing partnerships with organizations. Scholarly activity and service to
the university is required. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate core
courses in recreation and park administration. Courses may include: recreation programming,
leadership, and sport management. Earned doctorate in parks, recreation, tourism,
or closely related field required, candidates who will complete their doctorate within
a year of the start date will be considered. A record of productive teaching, research,
industry experience and service is preferred. Experience with developing on-line courses
as well as obtaining external funding will be an advantage.
The Recreation and Park Administration program is housed in the Department of Parks,
Recreation, and Hospitality Administration, which is one of six departments in the
College of Applied Sciences. The Recreation and Park Administration program offers
five designated emphasis areas: Natural Resource, Recreation Administration, Interpretation,
Therapeutic Recreation, and Turf Management. The program is accredited by the Council
on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Related Professions (COAPRT) and
currently is the only accredited program in the state. For more information about
