Arkansas Tech University, a four year public institution located in Russellville, Arkansas is seeking a qualified individual to serve as Director of Information Systems.  The Director reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for providing networking, hardware, and software support for all constituencies of the university, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors.  The Director will guide the university in the planning and implementation for information systems and infrastructure needs.  The Director is responsible for leading, directing, and assessing the university's networking, hardware, and software needs and providing solutions to support the strategic plan and mission of the university.  This is a full-time, 12-month position. 

Required Qualifications: Master's degree in Computer Science or related field with additional training/certificates in the technology field. Seven or more years of networking, computer and applications support, or related experience required. Capable of designing, setting up and configuring complex switching environments and hybrid computing systems in a data center environment that supports a complex range of physical and virtual systems and applications. Capable of evaluating, testing,  and overseeing the implementation and maintenance of a student/staff information system that supports a complex range of needs in a University setting. Knowledge of VOIP implementation and support. The ability to negotiate, manage contracts and projects with outside vendors and coordinate with University Legal Counsel. An uncompromising commitment to student learning through the college's mission, vision, values and the delivery of instruction. A demonstrated positive and proactive approach in identifying problems and creating innovative solutions. Proven ability to deal effectively, cooperatively and tactfully with students, business/industry, government and community representatives/citizens, faculty, staff, administrators. Preferred Qualifications: Five years leadership and managerial experience in networking and computer related positions. Experience in an educational support environment. Experience in network security with strong knowledge of VPN, Firewalls, and monitoring systems. Cisco infrastructure exposure. Proficiency in all MS Office products, with a strong understanding of open source products. Proficiency in all Windows Microsoft server operating systems with proficiency in Linux/Unix based systems. Cisco networking experience and/or certifications. Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.

Position Expectations: Directs all aspects of technology operations which include, but are not limited to, networking, hardware, and software operations or contracted technical assistance. Provides leadership in all technology areas to assist the university in achieving the goals identified in its strategic plan. Responsible for the operation and oversight of the Technology Center. Ensures the management of security for the physical networks for the university. Assists in managing and continually updating Information System Policies and Procedures. Creates and implements short and long-term technology plans for the university. Manages the technology replacement plan for the university. Manages all data center operations including remote disaster recover sites and operations.  Develops and manages the networking, VOIP, personal computing hardware standards for the university. Maintains a thorough understanding of Local Area and wide area networking. Assists in the design of multi-server environments including IP address schemes, DNS, DHCP, etc. Manages the installation of client and server network software for upgrading and maintaining network and telecommunication systems. Maintains multi-site network operations and software applications, operating systems and regular maintenance. Supervises the administration of systems and servers to ensure availability of services to authorized users. Oversees troubleshooting of malfunctions of network hardware and software applications, telephones and security systems to resolve operational issues and restore services.  Works with faculty, staff, and administration to maximize use of technology and information resources. Develops and monitors on-going department employee training. Develops and manages individualized training plans for all assigned department personnel. Serves on institutional committees as appointed by the President, Vice President for Academic Affairs, or Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. Performs other duties as designated by the President, Vice President for Academic Affairs, or Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. Provides exemplary customer service to internal and external customers.
