Arkansas Tech University invites applications for the position of Target School Liaison for the Upward Bound Math and Science Academy. Upward Bound is a federally funded grant program that provides support to low-income and/or first-generation college students. The Target School Liaison is the program’s representative to target area high schools, and is responsible for providing ongoing advising workshops for UBMS participants. The programs serves 55 high school students in the surrounding area, providing opportunities for tutoring, mentoring, and healthy exposure to cultural, social, and educational experiences that encourage success in pursuing a higher education.
Responsibilities: The Liaison will manage participant information, coordinate logistics for travel, advise and mentor students by conducting weekly mentoring sessions, assist with Saturday programs and an intense summer residency program, and perform other duties as assigned. This position requires the flexibility, ability, and willingness to work nights and weekends in structured and unstructured settings with students, staff, and faculty and other campus constituents.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Mathematics or Science Education, or related field; Minimum of 3 years’ experience with disadvantaged students; Experience in dealing with people individually and in groups; Experience in relating to persons from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree; Background similar to target population; TRIO experience preferred; Experience in the field of student financial aid
Salary & Benefits: $30,000 - $33,000 depending on qualifications and experience; TIAA/CREF, medical insurance, liberal vacation and sick leave. Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of federal grant funds from the U.S. Department of Education.
