SSS advisors provide academic assistance and support services to an assigned caseload of low income, first generation and ethnic minority college students. Under the supervision of the Director of SSS, the incumbent provides support services for new and continuing students through individualized and group services, which include orientation programs, summer and fall academic prep programs, peer mentoring/advising programs and individualized assessment and referral to basic skills course work and learning assistance services.  More specifically the SSS Advisors will:

Actively participate in recruitment and identification of eligible students and maintain caseload of SSS participants. 
Establish and maintain a graduate school resource library with current college catalogs. Serve on selected ATU committees in order to advocate for disadvantaged students.
Participate in assessment, monitoring, and documenting student contact.
Provide high quality of academic, career, and financial counseling/advisement to SSS participants. Maintain individual student folders documenting program eligibility, academic need, services provided, and progress. Provide a friendly atmosphere that is conducive to the success of SSS participants.
Assist in maintenance of accurate program tutoring records, accounting records, and correspondence, and prepare reports as necessary. 
Arrange participant appointments and meetings for tutoring services.
Assist students with admissions procedures and requirements at various four-year institutions.  Maintain relationships with college counselors, registrars, and financial aid directors.
Establish a high degree of rapport with identified potential graduate school students.
Attend all professional meetings for staff development as designated by the Director.
Maintain documentation in individual student folders concerning identification and tracking of eligible participants. 
Work with SSS participants to ensure that they are adhering to the degree plan.
Prepare and maintain a variety of records, time sheets, lists, logs, and files. 
Maintain confidentiality of participant records.
Assist in preparing the Annual Performance Report and sort data as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services.

Qualifications:
Required: 
Master’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Preferred:
One to three years experience in either counseling, classroom teaching, human services, employment counseling, career counseling, student services, or business management.
Experience in dealing with students, preferably on the college level.
Experience in the field of financial aid, college admissions, or other student service office.
Disadvantaged background or success in dealing with disadvantaged students.
Demonstrated success in identifying with and relating to students from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Prior TRIO experience.
