The Department of Health and Physical Education offers the following undergraduate degree tracks:
This track serves students who want to pursue professional preparation in the broad area of Wellness and Fitness Programs. This would include those students who desire to work in clinical-based, commercial and/or corporate settings.
Health and Physical Education Teacher Licensure
This track serves students who want to teach K-12 Health and Physical Education, with a coaching license.
Driver Education Program
The Driver Education Program has been designed to serve individuals preparing to be driver and traffic education teachers. Additional information about this summer program may be obtained by calling (479) 968-0323.
Undergraduate Teaching Area (Teacher Licensure)
The Department of Health and Physical Education at Arkansas Tech University offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education for those students who wish to become teachers and athletic coaches. The total number of hours required for the degree is 123 credit hours.
Teaching fields of interest offered by our department include:
- Health and Physical Education for Elementary and Secondary Schools
- Coaching Licensure (included with elementary and secondary degree)
- Driver Education Licensure may be added to any teaching degree
We encourage each student to have a second teaching field in addition to their major in health and physical education to enhance their marketability in their professional career.
Undergraduate Non-Teaching Areas (Wellness & Fitness Program)
The Health and Physical Education Department offers a non-teaching degree in Wellness and Fitness Programs for those students who are interested in the wellness/fitness profession. This degree leads to employment opportunities in the clinical, commercial, or corporate wellness/fitness settings. The total number of hours required for the degree is 120 credit hours.
