The History and Political Science Department offers programs of study at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Included in the undergraduate program are the Bachelor of Arts in History, the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, the Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies Education, and the Bachelor of Arts in Public History. Students can also pursue the Pre-Law program within the department.
The baccalaureate degree in history or political science is excellent preparation for careers in government and education, for further study in graduate school or law school, and for careers in the private sector of the economy. For personal and career flexibility, students majoring in history can design their degree requirements by selecting courses in World history, American history, or European history. Political science majors can select among courses in American politics and international relations. Students may also elect to work toward social studies secondary teaching licensure. Public history majors typically pursue careers in historical preservation and museum and archival management. In addition, the department offers minors in geography, history, philosophy, political science, and strategic studies.
