English as a Second Language
Arkansas Tech University and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville have been selected by the Arkansas Department of Education to offer ESL Academies in 2017-2018. The two institutions will offer intensive six-day summer workshops in Russellville, Springdale, and Little Rock on June 5-10, June 12-17, and June 19-24. In addition to the six-day summer session participants will attend four follow-up workshops during the 2017-2018 academic year. Successful completion of these workshops will partially fulfill requirements for an ESL endorsement for teachers holding an Arkansas Teachers license. Teachers will also need to earn a passing score on ESL Praxis 5362.
The deadline to apply for the 2017-2018 ESL Academies has passed.
The ESL Academies will give twelve hours of graduate credit. Teachers who complete one of the academies operated by Arkansas Tech will earn credit for the following endorsement courses:
- TESL 5023 Second Language Acquisition
- TESL 5703 Teaching English as a Second Language
- TESL 5713 ESL Assessment
- TESL 5723 Teaching People of Other Cultures
Teachers who complete on of the academies operated by the University of Arkansas will earn credit for the following endorsement courses:
- CIED 5293 Second Language Acquisition
- CIED 5933 Second Language Methodologies
- CIED 5943 Teaching People of Other Cultures
- CIED Second Language Assessment
